In an incident early Sunday morning, a 50-year-old man perished in a basement flat fire on Preston Road, Brighton. Exclusive footage obtained by Sussex News and ImJustBrighton reveals the critical moments following as East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) arrives at the scene.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) teams were dispatched to the scene at 3:48 am, with units from Preston Circus, Roedean, Newhaven, Bexhill, and Lewes, alongside West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, springing into action. The responders employed various tools, including breathing apparatus, an electric saw, and forcible entry techniques, to combat the flames engulfing the three-story building’s lower section.
Despite the firefighters’ efforts using pumping equipment and firefighting foam, the tragedy resulted in one fatality. A female was also taken into the care of ambulance services, details of her condition remain undisclosed.
