Fire Crews Tackle Overnight Flat Blaze in Eastbourne

Emergency services were called to a serious flat fire in Upperton Road, Eastbourne, during the early hours of Sunday morning (April 14).

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) received the call at 12:23am and responded with seven fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform to tackle the blaze at a residential property.

Residents in the area were advised to keep doors and windows closed as thick smoke filled the surrounding streets.

By 2:16am, ESFRS confirmed that the fire had been extinguished and brought under control, with eight appliances still on the scene to dampen down and assess the damage. Crews are expected to scale back their presence throughout the morning, but emergency services will remain in the area.

Authorities continue to urge people to avoid Upperton Road while operations are ongoing.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to follow.
