The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 28 at around 7.10pm on Lewes Road, at the junction with Queensdown Road. A white VW Passat and a motorcycle collided, resulting in serious injuries for the motorcycle rider and minor injuries for the pillion passenger.

The driver of the VW Passat left the scene, but police later sighted the vehicle on the A22 and were able to bring it to a safe stop. A 51-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man, both from Surrey, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of several offences including causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink-driving, drug-driving, and driving without a licence.
