Man, 74, dies following Littlehampton street altercation

A gentleman, injured in a Littlehampton dispute, has tragically passed away in the hospital.

Authorities were notified by medical professionals at Worthing Hospital following the admission of a 74-year-old male, on Friday 6 October, who sustained a grave head injury.

Despite medical interventions, the gentleman succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, 17 October. He’s been identified as Ernest Harrison, with his family being duly notified.

Detective Inspector Debbie Birch said: “We are working hard to establish the circumstances that led to Mr Harrison being injured.

“We believe he was involved in an altercation in High Street, near the Kamsons Pharmacy and Sweet Dreams & Bubbles shop, between 6pm and 7pm on Friday 6 October.

“Our enquiries suggest the area was busy with people at that time and we’re asking anyone who witnessed the altercation or the build up to it, to please get in touch.”

Subsequently, a 21-year-old male and a 15-year-old adolescent, previously detained on wounding suspicions, have been apprehended again on potential manslaughter charges. They’ve been granted bail under rigorous stipulations as the investigation progresses.

The public is advised of an amplified police presence due to ongoing investigations in the vicinity. Officers are available for any community concerns.

Individuals with pertinent details are encouraged to engage with the police online or dial 101, referencing Operation Glynde.
