Diners at KFC in South Street, Haywards Heath, were evacuated on Monday evening (March 10) after an incident that led to a police investigation.

A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent and taken into custody. Following further inquiries, he was linked to two other arson incidents reported in Haywards Heath on November 3, 2023, and was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Restaurant Evacuated, No Injuries Reported

A spokesperson for KFC confirmed that all customers and staff were safely evacuated during the incident.

“Our customers and team members were safely evacuated from our Haywards Heath restaurant last night,” the spokesperson said. “We’re supporting the police with their enquiries and plan to reopen as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

Police Appeal for Information

Sussex Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
