A 64-year-old Brighton man has been charged with the horrific murder of a young married couple in their Newhaven home. Derek Martin, also known by the alias Derek Glenn, was brought before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday 12 June.
The accused, residing on Moulsecoomb Way in Brighton, is alleged to be responsible for the murders of Josh and Chloe Bashford. Josh, 33, and Chloe, 30, were tragically found deceased at their property on Lewes Road, Newhaven, shortly after 7 pm on Friday 9 June.
The case has been adjourned for a preliminary hearing, slated to take place at Lewes Crown Court on Wednesday 14 June. Martin, who continues to be remanded in custody until the court hearing, has yet to enter a plea.
In an plea for privacy, the grieving families of the victims have stated their wish not to add any further information or be approached for comment at this time. They ask the press and the public to respect their need for space and privacy during this incredibly difficult period.
A post mortem examination of the victims is expected to occur later this week.
