Following a police pursuit incident in Burgess Hill, two teenagers have been apprehended for their involvement in a confrontation where an officer was assaulted.
The incident unfolded on Monday (4 March) at approximately 10.45 am when police, aided by the National Police Air Service (NPAS), responded to reports of two individuals engaging in the theft of motorbikes on Junction Road. The subsequent authorised chase led to the interception of the stolen motorcycles on Eastdale Road. During the altercation, an officer reportedly suffered a kick to the face and required hospitalization but has been discharged since.
Authorities acted promptly, detaining two teenagers. A 16-year-old from Horsham faces charges including motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without a proper license. Additionally, a 17-year-old from Burgess Hill was taken into custody on charges of criminal damage, assaulting police officers, failing to stop, and not complying with various roadside tests.
Both individuals have been granted conditional bail as investigations continue. Police are calling on witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and contact them through their online portal or by dialing 101, referencing serial 356 of 04/03.
