Police Respond to Reported Gunshots at Crawley College

Police were dispatched today following reports of “gunshots” in the vicinity of the Crawley College.

In response to reports about noises resembling a firearm being discharged near the campus just after 3pm today (May 12), officers conducted inquiries at the scene.

A police helicopter was spotted overhead as officers thoroughly examined the area as a safety measure, while coordinating with the college’s senior leadership to ensure the safety of students.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police received a report of possible gunshots being heard in the vicinity of Crawley College shortly after 3pm on Friday, May 12.

“Officers attended the area and carried out extensive enquiries, with the support of the National Police Air Service helicopter.

“They completed a thorough search of the area as a precaution and liaised with senior leadership at the college to keep everyone safe.

“No trace of a firearm was found and no further reports have been received by police. After initial enquiries, it is believed that the noises heard were fireworks.”
