Selsey Coastguard and Lifeboat Responds to Injured Beachgoer

Injured Beachgoer Rescued by Selsey Coastguard and Lifeboat Crew

Selsey Coastguard Team was paged at 13:26 on July 17, 2024, following reports of a casualty with an injured leg on the beach at Seal Bay, Selsey.

Upon arrival, the team assessed the casualty and, due to a prolonged wait for an ambulance and the casualty experiencing significant pain, requested the launch of the Selsey Inshore Lifeboat to provide pain relief.

The lifeboat crew collaborated with the coastguard team to administer initial care and pain relief to the casualty. Once paramedics arrived, additional pain relief was given before the casualty was carefully moved onto a stretcher and transported up the beach to the awaiting ambulance.

The casualty was subsequently transferred to the ambulance and taken to the hospital for further treatment.

The Selsey Coastguard Team reminds everyone to heed the signage advising against climbing on the rock armour. The rock armour is extremely hazardous due to its slippery surface and the presence of large, deep gaps between the rocks. Hidden rocks under the water’s surface can also pose serious injury risks.

The team returned to the station at 15:45.

In case of emergency at sea, on the beach, or along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
