On Sunday, September 3, 2023, Shoreham RNLI inshore lifeboat was lauched to two separate incidents.
The first incident involved a distress call reporting three children stranded on a paddleboard near Southwick Beach due to the receding tide. Swift action by the crew ensured the safe recovery of the children, who were found on East Spending Beach. They were promptly brought back to the lifeboat station and handed over to the Shoreham Coastguard Team.
The second callout of the evening came when the lifeboat crew was tasked with assisting a 10-meter rib boat carrying two adults and three children. Initially reported as being 500 meters off Hove, an updated position provided by the Coastguard revealed the vessel to be located 1.5 nautical miles further out at sea.
The crew successfully located the distressed rib and executed a tow operation. The rib, along with its occupants, was safely brought to Brighton Marina, ensuring their well-being.
The lifeboat then returned to its station.
