Two dogs shot after serious assault on man in his 70s

A senior citizen, aged in his 70s, is currently hospitalized with severe injuries after an event that took place in Lewes Close, Bognor Regis, around 9:50am today.

Upon receiving numerous reports of a man being assaulted by two dogs, thought to be Rottweilers, police were quickly on the scene.

Specialized firearms officers were dispatched promptly due to the ongoing danger to both the victim and the general public. They were given the directive to safely manage the dogs.

It’s confirmed that firearms were used, and both dogs have unfortunately been put down.

The owners of the dogs have been located, and the investigation is still in progress.

Chief Superintendent Alex Geldart commented on the traumatic incident, ensuring the public that there’s no lingering danger related to this event. He mentioned, “The affected family is currently being aided by our dedicated team of officers. We’re actively piecing together the details of this incident, and because it occurred in a residential zone, any available footage or information from the public would be invaluable.”

Anyone with details, especially recordings, is encouraged to reach out, referencing Op Byfleet. Information can be submitted online or via a call to 101.

Due to police engagement in the situation, the incident has been automatically forwarded to the IOPC for review.
