Two Men Charged in Connection with Brighton Rape Incident

Two men have been formally charged in connection with the rape of a 19-year-old man in Brighton earlier this month.

George Elliott, 40, and Mark Lett, 42, both of Redstone Road, Redhill, Surrey, face charges of rape and committing an offense with the intent to commit a relevant sexual offense. The charges stem from an incident on Saturday, December 21, in Steine Lane, Brighton.

The suspects appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on December 28, where they were remanded in custody pending further court proceedings. Both men are scheduled to appear before Lewes Crown Court on Monday, December 30.

Incident in Steine Lane: Details Emerge

The 19-year-old victim reported being approached by two unknown men near Harry Ramsden’s restaurant in Old Steine around 3:30 a.m. on December 21. Shortly afterward, he was attacked in a nearby lane.

The victim managed to seek help from a passer-by, who promptly contacted Sussex Police. The young man is currently receiving support from specialist officers as the investigation continues. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the suspects or the incident.

Detective Inspector Sean Booth of Sussex Police commended the bravery of the victim and emphasised the importance of public assistance. He stated: “We are still urging anyone with information about this incident to contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Attach.”
