Following an incident earlier today in Lewes Close, Bognor Regis, a man in his 70s remains hospitalized. A 29-year-old local man has been arrested in relation to the event.
Reports reached the police around 9:50 am of an elderly man being attacked by two dogs, thought to be Rottweilers, in public. The man, who had been out walking his smaller dog, sustained significant injuries from the mauling and was subsequently rushed to the hospital. His current condition is critical.
Considering the severe threat the dogs posed, specialist firearms officers were dispatched immediately to the scene. Upon securing the necessary permissions, officers took action to ensure public safety, which unfortunately led to the demise of both dogs.
The dogs’ owner has been apprehended, and the 29-year-old Bognor Regis resident is now in custody, facing charges related to having a dog dangerously out of control.
Chief Superintendent Alex Geldart made the following statement regarding the incident: “We understand the distressing nature of today’s events, and our primary concern is for the victim and his family, to whom we are offering our full support. Our commitment to understanding the complete details of this case is unwavering. We urge the public to assist by providing any relevant information, including possible video evidence.”
