A former Sussex Police officer, David Rolls, 46, has been charged with misconduct in a public office and is due to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 14 September.
Rolls, also known as Will, is alleged to have abused his position of trust and responsibility to a woman known to him between 1 January 2016 and 1 March 2018 while he was a serving officer on West Sussex division.
He resigned from his position as a Detective Chief Inspector in March this year.
The matter was referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct who directed that a local investigation by the Professional Standards Department should be conducted. The force will consider misconduct proceedings once the criminal proceedings have concluded.
