Police Hunt Vandals After CCTV Cameras Damaged on Newhaven Swing Bridge

Sussex Police have launched a public appeal after CCTV cameras on Newhaven Swing Bridge were deliberately damaged on the evening of Monday, June 2. The incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m., resulting in an estimated £200 worth of damage.

Officers are hoping to identify two individuals captured in the vicinity at the time, who they wish to speak with in connection to the vandalism. Both suspects are believed to be in their twenties, though their identities remain unknown.

The motive behind the act of damage is not yet clear, but authorities are treating the incident seriously due to its impact on local infrastructure and public safety monitoring. The damaged cameras are part of a wider system aimed at maintaining security across the area, including monitoring traffic and pedestrian activity on the key river crossing.

Police Appeal for Information from Witnesses

Authorities are urging anyone who was near the Newhaven Swing Bridge around 7 p.m. on June 2 and noticed any suspicious behavior, or who may have captured footage or images of the individuals involved, to come forward. Officers believe community assistance could prove vital in identifying the suspects and progressing the investigation.
