Updated: Hove Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal Accident in Hassocks

Police are urgently seeking witnesses following the discovery of a deceased man in Hassocks. The incident occurred on Clayton Hill at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Thursday (May 18), after concerns were raised about the well-being of a 64-year-old individual found by the roadside. Regrettably, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

In connection with the incident, a 59-year-old man from Hove has been taken into custody under suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop after a road accident. He is currently being held for further investigation.

Police are actively pursuing inquiries to uncover the complete circumstances surrounding the tragic event. As part of their investigation, the police are specifically appealing for any information from individuals who may have witnessed the incident or observed the deceased man in the vicinity during that time. Of particular interest are individuals who might possess relevant dashcam footage taken near Clayton Hill.
