This morning around 8:30am emergency services were called to London Road in East Grinstead after a car collided with a pedestrian and then crashed into the front of Holland and Barratt shop.
It is understood that both the driver and pedestrian were taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment, their condition is not yet known.
The High Street was closed whilst the Fire Service carried out an assessment of the building. It has now reopened.
A passerby said “Just drove past a nasty accident on London Road, East Grinstead. Black car had mounted the pavement and driven into the front of Holland and Barrett. It also looked like a pedestrian had been knocked over. No police or ambulance as of 8.50am. Pedestrian prone but with help.”
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on London Road, East Grinstead, just after 8.30am on Tuesday (January 3). The vehicle then left the road and crashed into the front of Holland and Barratt, causing extensive damage to the building.”
