Armed officers were called to Richmond Place, Brighton, on Sunday morning (October 19) following reports of a man seen carrying a taser.
The incident occurred at around 9.40am, prompting a significant police response as traffic was halted and armed units were seen detaining a man in the middle of the road. The situation was quickly brought under control, and no injuries were reported.
A 43-year-old man from Uckfield was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. He remains in police custody while further enquiries are carried out.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said:
“On Sunday, October 19, at around 9.40am, armed officers responded to a report of a person in possession of a taser in Richmond Place, Brighton. A 43-year-old man, from Uckfield, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. He remains in police custody at this time, while police enquiries continue.”
Police have confirmed that there is no wider threat to the public,
