A man has been charged with multiple offences after an incident of disorderly behaviour in Brighton left a police officer injured.
Officers were called to St James’s Street at around 7.30pm on Monday, 18 August, following reports of disorder. During attempts to make an arrest, an officer sustained injuries and required medical treatment.
A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
Sussex Police have since confirmed that Scott Lee-Allen, 45, of no fixed address, has been charged with:
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (racially aggravated)
- Intentional strangulation (racially aggravated)
- Using threatening or abusive words or behaviour (racially aggravated)
Lee-Allen appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 21 August, where he was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Crown Court on 18 September at a venue to be confirmed.
A Sussex Police spokesperson confirmed that the injured officer is now recovering.
