Police are urgently searching for a man after an 82-year-old woman was seriously injured during a car theft in Hove this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Blatchington Road at around 5.30pm, where the woman was treated at the scene for a serious leg injury.

The suspect stole the victim’s car, described as a red Honda Jazz, registration DU56 VCE, and drove away eastbound. Officers are appealing to the public to help locate the vehicle and identify the man responsible.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has relevant CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage, or who sees the vehicle is urged to contact police immediately on 101 or report online, quoting serial 988 of 12/01.

Blatchington Road has since reopened, but police say there will continue to be an increased presence in the area while enquiries continue and officers speak to nearby residents and businesses.

In an emergency, always dial 999.
