I popped into The Fudge Patch, just as they were making and cutting fresh fudge, and that alone told me this wasn’t going to be your average sweet shop experience. The smell hit first – rich, warm, and properly indulgent. I tried the peanut butter flavour and, honestly, it was out of this world. Perfectly firm yet smooth, with that soft crack and crumble you only get from proper handmade fudge, not the gritty, mass-produced stuff.

What genuinely surprised me is that it’s vegan-friendly. You’d never guess. It tastes richer and cleaner than most dairy fudge I’ve had, with no heavy or burnt aftertaste. They use rice milk as a base, which really allows the flavours to shine. This is fudge made with confidence and experience, not shortcuts.

A really nice touch is that they let you try a little bit before you buy. It’s a simple thing, but it makes a huge difference – customers can be confident in what they’re buying, and let’s be honest, once you’ve tasted it, you’re already reaching for your wallet.

I also had a great chat with the staff, who were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. From what I understand, the owner is one of only a small number of people who’ve been making fudge for around 28 years, and that level of experience shows in every slab on the counter. There’s no hard sell here, just quiet pride in a product they know is good.
