East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) were called to the scene by the RSPCA after a seagull was found caught in netting on the roof of a building in Dorset Gardens/Edward Street, Brighton at 4:50 pm yesterday.

Police closed the road while an Aerial ladder unit was deployed to rescue the trapped bird. Fortunately, the operation was a success, and the seagull was safely rescued.

Following the rescue, a spokesperson for the ESFRS commented on the situation, saying, “The RSPCA requested our attendance at Dorset Gardens/Edward Street Brighton at 16.50 yesterday. A seagull was caught in netting. It was rescued and handed into the care of the RSPCA.”

The spokesperson went on to remind members of the public that animal charities should be the first point of contact when animals are in distress, saying, “Members of the public are right to contact animal charities for help in the first instance if they see an animal in distress.”
