A woman has sadly died following a large-scale emergency response off the Hove coastline on Monday evening (14 October).
Police confirmed they were called by HM Coastguard at around 7.50pm after receiving reports of concern for a woman in the sea.
A major search operation was launched involving Coastguard rescue teams, RNLI lifeboats from Brighton and Shoreham, and the Coastguard helicopter from Lydd, which provided aerial support. Sussex Police also assisted from the shore, helping coordinate the multi-agency response.
A woman in her 50s was recovered from the water but was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said:

Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
