Residents of St Leonards are being urged to come forward after a late-night robbery shook the quiet seaside town. Sussex Police have launched an urgent appeal following a violent incident at Wesgo Local on Bexhill Road, which took place shortly before 10pm on Monday, August 25, 2025.
According to officers, two masked men stormed the convenience store, threatening a shop worker with what appeared to be a firearm. The suspects assaulted the employee before fleeing with cash and a quantity of cigarettes, leaving the victim shaken but receiving support from police.
Suspect Details Released
The first suspect is described as a white male, around 17 to 18 years old, approximately 5ft 10in tall and slim build. He was wearing a grey and black Nike hoodie, black balaclava, black jeans, grey Nike trainers, and had a single black glove on his right hand.
The second suspect is believed to also be a white male, late teens, dressed in a black hoodie with the hood up and a black balaclava covering his face.
After the robbery, the pair fled on foot across Bexhill Road before heading up Filsham Road towards St Saviours Road.
Police Urge Public to Help
Detectives are now appealing to anyone who may have been in the area or who witnessed the suspects’ movements before or after the incident. Officers are particularly keen to trace a person who was inside the shop at the time of the robbery.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1403 of 25/08. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be shared with Crimestoppers.
This shocking robbery highlights concerns about shop safety and the rise in violent crime in smaller communities. Police are urging residents and local businesses to review CCTV footage and remain vigilant as the investigation continues.
