Emergency services were called to a major incident in Lewes during the early hours of Monday morning after a bus caught fire at a petrol station.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) confirmed they were alerted at 2.09am on 29 September 2025 to reports of a large vehicle fire on Brighton Road, eastbound between Lewes and Falmer.
The blaze, which started on a bus, also spread to the petrol station shop.
Four fire engines from Preston Circus, Hove and Roedean were sent to the scene. Firefighters initially used two sets of breathing apparatus and two foam jets to tackle the flames.
By 3.30am, crews had escalated their response, deploying six sets of breathing apparatus, two foam jets and one main jet.
Sussex Police are on site assisting with traffic management.
Authorities have urged drivers to avoid Brighton Road and for nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.
