East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) has confirmed that a fire in Eastbourne on Monday afternoon (1 September) has now been fully extinguished.

Crews were called at 12.49pm to Harrington Place, where a domestic property had caught alight. Appliances from Eastbourne, Bexhill, Seaford, Newhaven and Lewes attended, supported by a command unit and an aerial ladder platform.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property, using thermal imaging cameras and a firefighting jet to bring the blaze under control.

Two people were treated at the scene before being handed over to ambulance crews for further care.

An ESFRS spokesperson confirmed:

“The cause of the fire is believed to be an air fryer.”

Emergency services have since left the scene, and fire investigators are reminding residents to take care when using electrical appliances in the home.
