A major road linking Hastings and Bexhill remained closed on Wednesday night (25 September) following a traffic incident involving a tractor and a car earlier in the day.

The crash happened on Combe Valley Way when the rear plant machinery of a tractor ripped off, striking a crash barrier before colliding with an overtaking car. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

As of Wednesday night, both carriageways were still shut while Highways teams continued work to clear debris, deal with spillage, and make the road safe.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said:
*”We have been informed by Highways that both carriageways on Combe Valley Way are now closed. They are likely to remain closed throughout the day and into the evening due to the extensive cleaning required on the road.

“We are currently responding to a road traffic incident on Combe Valley Way, westbound from Hastings to Bexhill.

“The rear plant machinery of a tractor ripped off and struck a crash barrier, then collided with an overtaking car. This has resulted in lane closures. Fortunately, no injuries were reported by those involved.

“Highways teams are on scene and working to clear the carriageway of debris and spillage. Please expect delays and plan your journey accordingly.

“Thank you for your patience while we work with our partners to ensure the road is made safe and reopened as soon as possible.”*

The closure caused significant disruption throughout the day, with motorists advised to find alternative routes between Hastings and Bexhill.
