Footage shared with Sussex News captures the dramatic moment a stolen van being pursued by police crashed into a lamppost in Ore, East Sussex.
The incident happened on Thursday, 3 October, after police were alerted to reports of a stolen vehicle in the Hastings area earlier that morning. Officers later sighted the van and attempted to stop it, but the driver failed to stop, sparking a pursuit through the local area.
The chase came to an end near London Road, Ore, at around 3.30pm when the van collided with a lamppost. Witnesses said the occupants ran from the wreckage but were quickly apprehended by officers nearby.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said:
“Police received a report of a stolen vehicle in Hastings at about 10am on October 3.
The vehicle was later seen by officers, and crashed near London Road, Ore, at about 3.30pm.
Two men aged 21 and 22 decamped but were swiftly arrested on suspicion of offences including dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle.
They remain in custody at this time.”
No injuries were reported, but the van sustained heavy damage and was later recovered for examination.
