The A259 in Newhaven has been temporarily closed following a single-vehicle Road Traffic Collision (RTC) on the swing bridge. Emergency services, including paramedics and police, have responded to the incident.
The Sussex Roads Police unit and investigation officers are now on-site, commencing their thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The closure is expected to remain in effect until the early morning as investigators work diligently to ensure the safety of all road users.
Pedestrians may cross the bridge on the south side.
During this period, authorities are urging motorists to steer clear of the affected area. Instead, they are advised to utilise alternative routes to reach their destinations. Detours have been set up via the A26 and A27, with options to divert through the C7 or backtrack through Falmer.
