Police are appealing for witnesses following an alleged sexual assault at Camber Sands on Bank Holiday Monday.
A 57-year-old woman from Kent was sunbathing in the dunes between zones G and H at around 5.30pm on 25 August when she was approached by an unknown man who began massaging her. He then reportedly sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene on foot.
The suspect is described as white but tanned, aged in his mid-30s, of stocky or muscular build, with T-shirt tan lines. He had a full dark brown beard, crooked teeth and spoke with a foreign accent. He was last seen wearing a navy baseball cap and blue patterned shorts, but no top.
Detective Inspector Steve Shimmons said:
“Specialist officers have engaged with the victim, who continues to be supported as we seek to establish exactly what happened.
“The beach was extremely busy on Bank Holiday Monday and we’re urging anyone who saw what happened, or anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity or captured it on camera, to contact us.”
