An EasyJet flight from Manchester to Alicante was forced to divert this evening (28th August 2025) after declaring a mid-air emergency.
Flight EZY EZY2033 / U22033 departed Manchester at 18:56 but while flying over the English Channel the aircraft squawked 7700 — the transponder code used to signal a general emergency.
The Airbus diverted back to the UK and landed safely at London Gatwick at 19:55, after 1 hour and 34 minutes in the air.
Passengers later continued their journey to Alicante on a replacement service, which departed Gatwick around an hour after landing. The flight touched down in Spain just after midnight.
A spokesperson for EasyJet said:
“We’re very sorry that your flight has now been diverted to London Gatwick Airport. This is due to a passenger welfare issue. The disruption to your flight is outside of our control and is considered to be an extraordinary circumstance.”
