So today we are trying the burgers at Smacks Burgers in West Street, Brighton.
We ordered cheese burgers, nice and simple and quick to make. We was given our order number and the food was delivered to our table.
However from the moment the food arrived, it was obvious this was going to be a let-down. Burgers were warmish, not hot, which immediately suggests poor timing or care. Everything was drowned in grease — the kind that soaks through the bun, the paper, and leaves your hands, plate, and appetite coated in oil. Any actual flavour was completely lost.

Yes, the burgers were presented reasonably well, but presentation doesn’t make up for food that’s lukewarm and unpleasant to eat. After a few bites, it genuinely felt like forcing it down rather than enjoying a meal.
While the staff were polite and the venue looked clean at a glance, the details tell a different story. The floor was streaky and didn’t look properly cleaned, and having the toilet hidden behind a locked door feels unnecessarily awkward for customers. These small things add up and don’t inspire confidence in overall standards.

For the prices charged, the value for money is poor bordering on insulting. Brighton is packed with excellent burger places serving hot, well-cooked food for the same money or less. There is absolutely no reason to settle for this.
Reviewers Score:
Food: 2/5 – lukewarm, greasy, and disappointing
Cleanliness: 4/5 – acceptable, but sloppy in places
Staff: 4/5 – polite and professional
Value: 2/5 – not worth the price
Reviewers verdict: 2/5 — A forgettable, greasy experience that relies on branding rather than quality. Until the basics are fixed — heat, grease, and value — this is an easy one to skip.
