A dog was safely rescued after falling from cliffs near Cuckmere Cottages in Seaford on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a rapid response from Newhaven Coastguard.
The Coastguard team was called out after the dog went over the edge of the cliff, with its owners doing “exactly the right thing” by dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguard.
On arrival, rescue teams quickly located the dog stranded on a narrow ledge part way down the cliff. Specialist cliff rescue equipment was immediately deployed, and a trained cliff technician was lowered down to reach the animal.
The dog was secured into a bespoke animal rescue bag before being carefully lifted back to safety.

Remarkably, fewer than eight minutes after the dog went over the cliff, the rescue technician was back at the top, and the dog was safely reunited with its relieved owners.
Newhaven Coastguard described the incident as a “happy outcome” on a bright, crisp and sunny Sussex Sunday, and reminded the public to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard in any coastal emergency.
