A dramatic coastal rescue operation was triggered on Saturday afternoon after reports of five people and two dogs being cut off by the rising tide at Rock-A-Nore, Hastings.
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of RNLI Eastbourne’s D-Class inshore lifeboat at 12:51pm on Saturday 29 November, following concerns that the group, along with the animals, were stranded and unable to return to shore.
Due to the number of reported casualties, RNLI crews also began preparations to launch the station’s Trent-class all-weather lifeboat for additional support. Both vessels readied for deployment in difficult conditions, with heavy rainfall, rough seas and challenging launch terrain adding further complexity to the situation.
However, before the lifeboats launched, local Coastguard Rescue Teams located the casualties and successfully extracted all five people and both dogs from the shoreline, bringing them safely back to land.
Once the group and animals were confirmed safe, the Coastguard stood down the request, and the launch of both RNLI lifeboats was cancelled.
A spokesperson for RNLI Eastbourne praised the swift work of the Coastguard teams, adding that the priority in any shout is always to reach casualties and ensure their safety as quickly as possible.
The RNLI has again reminded the public that in a coastal emergency, people should always dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
