Shoreham’s all-weather lifeboat was launched late on Saturday afternoon to assist a 26ft yacht that had suffered engine failure off the coast of Rottingdean.
The vessel, which had one person on board, was safely taken under tow into Brighton Marina, where the marina work boat helped guide it onto a mooring.
Shortly after, the crew were tasked to a second incident, following reports of flashing lights seen along the shoreline at Worthing. The lifeboat proceeded to investigate, but the call was later stood down when it was confirmed to be a fisherman wearing a head torch in the surf. The call was made in good intent.
The RNLI reminds anyone who spots someone in difficulty along the coast to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
