Exclusive Review: Violet’s Vaudeville Vault at The Actors, Brighton Fringe

There are moments at the Fringe that make you stop, smile, and think: This is exactly what Brighton is all about. Violet’s Vaudeville Vault is one of those rare gems—a rich, raucous showcase of talent that bursts from the seams with theatrical mischief, musical flair, and vintage cabaret charm.

Held over two sparkling nights at The Actors venue, Violet’s Vaudeville Vault transformed a humble fringe space into a glitzy time machine. Hosted with charisma and cheek by the inimitable Violet herself—equal parts showgirl, ringmaster, and chaos-conductor—the show delivered a parade of vaudevillian delights: burlesque, magic, drag, circus antics, and live music, all stitched together with sass and sequins.

Each act brought its own flavour to the stage, but none dared outshine the host—Violet commanded the room like a true Brighton royalty, teasing the crowd with razor-sharp wit and welcoming everyone into her glitter-soaked world. Whether you were there for the feather fans, the fire juggling, the sultry jazz numbers, or the laughs that came fast and fabulous, there was something for every fringe-goer with a taste for the eccentric.

The Saturday and Sunday line-ups shifted slightly, which made a return visit feel fresh rather than familiar. Saturday leaned cheekier with some boundary-pushing comedy and burlesque; Sunday offered a slightly more intimate feel, spotlighting some genuinely breathtaking vocalists and a surreal mime act that had the audience both puzzled and howling with laughter.

The venue—The Actors—added to the experience. Intimate enough to feel personal, yet atmospheric enough to let the acts breathe, the space came alive with every stomp of a tap shoe and every twirl of a tassel.

This wasn’t just a variety show—it was a love letter to cabaret and a celebration of the beautiful weirdness Brighton is so proud of. If the Brighton Fringe had a beating heart wrapped in fishnets and rhinestones, it might very well be Violet’s Vaudeville Vault.

Reviewers Score: 4.5 stars out of 5
