At 8:04pm on Sunday (28 July), East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) were called to reports of a flat fire in Preston Drove, Brighton.
Four fire engines were sent to the scene, along with a control unit. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using a hose reel jet and one main jet to tackle the blaze.
In an updated statement at 8:50pm, an ESFRS spokesperson said:
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are tackling a fire in Preston Drove, Brighton using a hose reel jet and one main jet. Four appliances have been sent to the incident, alongside a control unit. Please avoid the area to allow crews to make the area safe.”
“21:31: We remain at the scene of a fire in Preston Drove Brighton which has now been scaled back to three appliances. Firefighters will remain at the scene and a fire investigation is underway. Please continue to avoid the area.”
The road remains closed as emergency crews work to bring the fire under control.
Residents nearby are being urged to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area.
There is currently no confirmation of any injuries or the cause of the fire.
