Police Arrest Suspect After Reports of Concern for Woman’s Welfare in Manchester Street
A man has been charged with attempted rape following a serious incident in Brighton on Saturday, 7 June.
Police were called to Manchester Street at around 11am after members of the public raised concerns for the welfare of a woman.
Officers attended the scene and arrested James Scott, 45, of no fixed address. He has since been charged with attempted rape and sexual assault.
Scott appeared before magistrates and has been remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 7 July.
The victim, a woman in her 20s, is receiving specialist support from trained officers.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “We would like to thank members of the public who reported their concerns so promptly. An investigation is ongoing, and the victim is being supported as we continue to gather evidence.”
