A horse has been rescued from a muddy field in Hastings after becoming stuck in a challenging location early this morning.
Crews from Bohemia Road Fire Station’s White Watch responded to the incident, alongside the Technical Rescue Unit (TRU) from Battle Community Fire Station and Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s animal and water rescue units.
Due to the remote and muddy location, heavy machinery could not be used. Instead, firefighters worked together using strops and a mud path in a “tug-of-war style” effort to free the animal.

Thanks to the combined efforts of the teams, the horse was safely brought to solid ground. After being checked over by a vet, she was able to trot happily back to her stable—and enjoy a much-needed bath.
Fire service praises teamwork
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service praised the multi-agency response, highlighting how coordinated teamwork brought the incident to a safe and successful conclusion.
