Two Teenagers Charged After 15-Year-Old Attacked with Sword in Portslade

Portslade, Sussex – Two teenagers have been charged and remanded in custody after a 15-year-old boy was attacked with a sword in Portslade.

Emergency services were called to Franklin Road at around 9pm on Thursday, July 10, following reports of a serious assault.

The teenage victim sustained significant arm injuries and was rushed to hospital. He has since been discharged.

A swift police investigation led to the arrest of a 16-year-old from Brighton and a 17-year-old from Eastbourne. Due to their age, the suspects cannot be named.

In the early hours of Saturday, July 12, Sussex Police confirmed both teens were charged in connection with the incident.

The 16-year-old has been charged with:

  • Causing grievous bodily harm with intent
  • Attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent

The 17-year-old has been charged with:

  • Possession of a bladed article in a public place
  • Possession of an offensive weapon in a public place
  • Causing grievous bodily harm with intent

Both appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court the same day and were remanded in custody until their next court hearing on Thursday, July 18.

Detective Sergeant Vicky Lofts, from Brighton CID, said:

“This was a deeply concerning incident that understandably caused shock within the local community.

Officers responded swiftly to the scene, making arrests shortly afterwards, and charges have since been authorised.

We believe the victim and defendants are known to each other. Our investigation is ongoing, and we encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
