Unexpected urgent repairs led to the temporary closure of the main runway at Gatwick Airport this afternoon, causing minor disruptions in its operation. As a result of the closure, four flights were diverted to alternate destinations.
In a statement released earlier today, Gatwick Airport authorities stated, “The main runway was closed for a short time today (16 August) due to emergency repairs. Four flights were diverted. The runway is now open and operating as normal. Safety is our top priority and we apologise to passengers for any inconvenience.”
