Emergency crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called into action this afternoon after a fire broke out in the warehouse of Poundland on Montague Street in Worthing.
The alarm was raised at 4.08pm, prompting the fire service to dispatch five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform to the scene.
Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, worked swiftly to bring the blaze under control using two hoses. As thick smoke billowed from the building, emergency responders urged the public to steer clear of the area.
A fire service spokesperson issued a statement saying, “There is a lot of smoke in the area, so we would urge people to avoid the area for the time being to allow firefighters to work safely.”
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, and no injuries have been reported at this time.
