Highways England South East has reported significant traffic disruption on the M23 southbound near Gatwick Airport following an oil spillage and damage to the carriageway. Lanes 1, 2, and 3 are now closed between Junction 8 (M25) and Junction 9 (Gatwick Airport), leaving only Lane 4 open for vehicles to pass the scene.
The closures have caused congestion stretching approximately 1.5 miles, with delays estimated at 20 minutes above normal travel time. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes or allow additional time for their journeys.
