East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service remain at the scene of a major fire at the former Moira House School buildings on Upper Carlisle Road, Eastbourne, after being called at 17:47 on Saturday evening (October 19).
Eight fire appliances — including two aerial ladder platforms — are currently in attendance, with crews from Eastbourne, Pevensey, Hailsham, Bohemia Road, Seaford, Bexhill, Lewes, Roedean, and Preston Circus.
Firefighters are using ground jets and two main jets from the aerial ladder platforms to bring the blaze under control.
Police are also assisting at the scene, and both Carlisle Road and The Link Road remain closed.
Residents in the area are being urged to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke and to avoid the area while emergency services continue their work.
In an update at 22:00, East Sussex Fire & Rescue confirmed that eight fire appliances remain on scene and crews are continuing to use main jets and aerial platforms to extinguish the fire.
