A Brighton man has been banned from owning or keeping a dog for the next two years following a court ruling prompted by a Sussex Police investigation.
The ban was issued after officers received information concerning the man’s behaviour towards his dog. Police assessed the situation and submitted evidence to the court, which determined that a disqualification order was necessary to protect the welfare of animals and ensure public safety.
Under the terms of the order, the man is prohibited from owning, keeping, or having any control over a dog during the two-year period. Any breach of this restriction could lead to further prosecution and potential seizure of any animal found in his care.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the force is committed to safeguarding both animals and the wider community. Officers will continue to monitor the case to ensure the order is complied with.
The ruling serves as a reminder that dog ownership carries legal responsibilities. Authorities warned that neglect, cruelty, or failure to maintain control of an animal can lead to serious consequences, including bans, fines, and criminal charges.
Sussex Police encourage residents to report any concerns relating to animal welfare or dangerous dog behaviour so issues can be investigated promptly.
