A man from East Preston has been sentenced for a shoplifting spree that saw more than £1,400 worth of goods stolen from supermarkets across West Sussex.
David Blann, 36, of Cotswold Way, admitted 25 thefts and one attempted theft between March and July. He was arrested on 18 July, charged the same day, and pleaded guilty at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 22 September, Blann was handed a 17-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.
Police said Blann repeatedly targeted supermarkets, adding that his crimes caused disruption for staff and losses for businesses.
Sergeant Amelia Roberts said:
“Retail crime has a real impact on shop workers and the community. We remain committed to tackling offenders and supporting businesses.”
The case was brought under Operation Apprentice, Sussex Police’s crackdown on prolific shoplifting.
