A 52-year-old man from Eastbourne has been sentenced to nine years and six months in prison, after being found guilty of multiple child-sexual abuse offences.
According to court documents, in 2011 the man groomed and repeatedly sexually abused a 13-year-old girl — manipulating her into believing they were in a “normal relationship.”
The victim eventually cut off contact, but came forward to police as an adult in 2021. Following a thorough investigation, the defendant faced trial at Lewes Crown Court. At trial he was convicted of nine counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of causing a child to commit sexual activity.
In addition to the prison sentence, he will be listed on the sex offenders register for life and is subject to an indefinite restraining order.
A representative of Sussex Police praised the courage of the victim for coming forward, emphasising that the force remains committed to investigating and prosecuting historic abuse — regardless of how much time has passed.
This case serves as a stark reminder that safeguarding and justice remain possible even many years after abuse has occurred.
