A man was arrested at Brighton railway station after allegedly headbutting a police officer and attempting to smash up a police vehicle, following a chaotic series of incidents witnessed by commuters.
Sussex News was told by an eye witness the drama began inside the station concourse when the man, who appeared to be under the influence, began acting erratically. He was reportedly staring at a stuffed animal on the concourse, knocked it over, and then followed someone though the gates.
Railway staff initially intervened after the man appeared to be causing a disturbance. When British Transport Police (BTP) officers arrived, the man reportedly claimed he was having a heart attack and lay on the floor. Paramedics were called, and Sussex News was told he was eventually moved to the concourse area. Despite his earlier claims, he was later cleared by paramedics.
The eye witness stated that after the male had been released, the man jumped into a van on Terminus Road. He was then arrested following an alleged headbutt on a police officer and an attempt to damage a patrol car.
Both BTP and Sussex Police attended the incident, which caused brief disruption at Brighton station. No further details have been released about the man’s identity or any potential charges, with investigations ongoing.
