A man has been declared dead after police were called to a Brighton hotel in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called to The Grand Hotel on Kings Road shortly before 6am on Wednesday following reports of a concern for a man’s welfare. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A section of the seafront outside the hotel was briefly cordoned off while officers carried out inquiries. Sussex Police confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called to The Grand Hotel in Brighton shortly before 6am following a report of concern for a man’s welfare. Sadly, the man was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Hotel staff were understood to have assisted emergency services as officers remained on site for several hours. Guests at the hotel reported seeing police vehicles and an ambulance outside during the morning.

The Grand Hotel, one of Brighton’s most recognisable landmarks, remained open while police completed their initial investigation.

No further details about the man’s identity have been released pending formal identification.
