Two men are set to appear in court after being charged in connection with an alleged arson attack at a mosque in Peacehaven earlier this month.

Emergency services were called to Phyllis Avenue on the evening of Saturday, 4 October, following reports that a fire had been started outside Peacehaven Mosque. Thankfully, the blaze was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported.

Following an investigation, Ricky Ryder, aged 38, from Richington Way in Seaford, and Jack Slowey, aged 34, from Mayfield Avenue in Peacehaven, have both been charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

The pair remain in custody and are expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 24 October.

A third man, aged 42 and from Peacehaven, was also arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life but has since been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Police have urged residents not to post speculation or unverified details about the case online, warning that doing so could risk influencing future court proceedings.

Officers say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
